That Gretz piece isn't exactly a glowing endorsement of the trade. His point about the power play is spot on. Either Kuni or Hornqvist will be sitting.

I'll say this... Malkins line will certainly benefit from a net front presence. It was clearly needed in the playoffs. Unfortunately the sniper is gone. I guess Malkin is going to need to shoot more (which isn't a bad thing).

Still not enamored with the deal.

I am too.. really wondering how JR didn't get one of their 2nds...he'll their 3rd rd pick was 2nd in the rd.. that would have worked too...

I think pens keep only one of them... and I think it's spaling bc he is cheaper... I am hoping kapanen makes it bc Hornqvist sid kapanen would be a sweet line and I'd like to see a pen win the calder.. I'm still sulking maatta wasn't in top 3...

This is such a mess, these two should have been signed a while ago.

Not really. If they get signed by camp, cool. If Sutter is traded, cool. Work and summer have me in a crappy hockey mood. I need some violence and speed to get me going. Baseball isn't cutting it anymore.

For me them not signing is a great thing. Means JR isn't going to over pay hopefully

Also, people were complaining that JR was telling the media to much and were hoping he would keep his mouth shut. I wasn't one of those people but since nothing is actually known with these two situations I would say JR has done a great job of keeping everything under wraps.

Good point. Or even exploring trading them. Either way...due diligence is good.

Penguins believe they are closing in on a new deal for RFA Brandon Sutter that "should" be completed this week, a source says.

It better be to trade him, I will erupt with anger if we sign this guy.

When you find out Sutter is signed for 3 years at 4 mil please wait 5 minutes before posting. I wouldn't want you to say anything irrational.

That could be a nice first line. (I think Hornqvist is a pure RW though). I like Kunitz-Malkin-Bennett as a second line. Each line has a generational talented center, a banger/net front guy, and puck skill guy. Man, a legit top 6 winger makes us so much more potent.

I have a gut feeling Kapanen remains in Finland this year. It only makes sense that he at least gets a 9 game tryout at the beginning of the year though. Changes the whole complexion of our forward lines.

Lol. I think we will all be mad. Honestly, I would pay him $4M and be just fine with it if Scuderi wasn't on the roster. Sutter/Spaling contracts are really only a problem because the cap is so tight right now. We basically have $5.4M to sign both.

CapGeek has them listed at $6.43M right now. A little better but, yes, it's still tight if both of them are overpaid.

I haven't seen the sheriff in here for a while. You should be ok.

The Gretz piece makes sense if a PP sniper specialist was all it took to go deep in the playoffs. Net crashing and dirty goals were a shortage the last 4 years in the playoffs. If the PP drops off a bit in the regular season until it settles out, that is OK with me. This team needs more grit. If Spaling walks, it matters little to us. But I think Hornquist with Malkin, Crosby and Erhoff will be a force. Plus we need to see how the new coaching staff utilizes all these guys on PP and even strength. Stay calm my friend.

I said this yesterday but does anyone else (beisdes Victoro) like this idea?

Trade Sutter to EDM for Moroz
Sign Mueller for $700k
Sign Gooch for $1M.
